No Permanent Mode Setting. Honestly, I thought it was great. I had bought the lights to light up my stairs leading to my front door. Just enough light to show the stairs, easy to use and solar powered. It even has 10 different modes of operation. Unfortunately, it does not remember the last mode it was set to. Great for making my fence visible to drivers at night. I purchased this light string to put along the top of a fence to make it more visible at night. It came in a plain cardboard box with no markings. There was some assembly required, as you have to put the stake in the bottom of the solar panel. But first, you should hammer the stake into the ground, that way you don’t crack the solar panel by putting pressure on it.
