Ben Storm is living the perfect life in Texas at a children’s Home. Giant cottonwood, elm, and poplar trees grow along the irrigation canals that run through the grounds and border the Home. Wide and long alfalfa and cotton fields beckon nearby. Suddenly his entire source of stability and friendships are ripped away when he is told he will be moving to Southern California. After a few months his relatives turn him over to a man they say is his dad. He soon finds himself living in a tenuous situation with a father he has never known. Unable to forge the years spent apart into a relationship due to his dad’s chemical abuse and dependency, Ben makes the difficult decision to leave the household and takes to the streets. In the course of attempting to survive, he eventually finds solace and safety in the most unlikely of places.
