Not safe! Unit doesn’t turn off and also melted inside of tank. our coldest temp was 4 degrees (which they said felt like -6). We live in Zone 6 and have a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. Going by the chart provided on the product page, I would need a 500 watt tank de-icer…I purposely bought the next size up. You can use this de-icer with the float ring, or without. I chose without. It is NOT keeping our stock tank water thawed out. I’ve had it not quite three months, and have only used it during the month of December, our coldest temp was 4 degrees (which they said felt like -6)…my tank is completely froze…
